Next week James Brading, Lita Teng and I will travel from New Zealand to Bratislava, to attend the SAP Business One Tech-Summit. This is a global event where we will learn directly from SAP about their latest technologies, including HANA – SAP’s new High Performance Analytical Appliance.
HANA is of particular significance to Enprise, because we are presently developing the capability for all of our products to run on HANA. Similarly, SAP is also releasing all of its software to run on HANA – including SAP Business One.
HANA gives SAP Business One and solutions such as Enprise Job a lot more processing power and analytic capability, enabling the solutions to be suitable for larger customers with larger volumes of data and more sophisticated data analysis requirements.
Following the Tech-Summit, James and I will continue up to London for the SAP Business One UK & Nordics Partner Day.
We look forward to meeting many of ours and SAP’s reseller partners from around the world at both of these events.

This year marks Enprise’s ten years in business, since it was formed as a breakaway from New Zealand based ERP vendor Exonet International. Exonet was acquired by Australia’s Solution 6, who subsequently merged with the Australasian SME ERP powerhouse – MYOB. The Exonet product we built our business on, is now known as MYOB EXO and is used by many thousands of SME businesses throughout Australasia.
As a founder of Exonet, I recognised the value in taking on Exonet’s direct sales division (known inside the business as “Enprise”) along with former Exonet managers Elliot Cooper and Leanne Graham.
So as Enprise reaches this ten year milestone, so also do our relationships with some of our loyal customers and staff members. We are taking this opportunity to recognise and celebrate their on-going partnerships & relationships with Enprise. This will be a great year, full of celebration and re-commitment to another successful ten years together.

Enprise team members (from L to R) Julie, Melissa, Corban and Carlie during the celebration of Carlie’s 10 years with Enprise
This week we celebrated the ten years of service that Carlie Kennedy has given to Enprise and our customers. Earlier this year we celebrated the same ten year milestone for Senior Consultant (and my sister) Sarah Loveys.
After ten years in business, it’s great to look back on how many customers we’ve helped grow with MYOB EXO, both in New Zealand and Australia.

Senior Enprise Consultant, Sarah Loveys marked her ten years with Enprise in January this year
Here’s to another great ten years of serving SME businesses!

This week I was delighted to welcome Corban Slabbert back to Enprise as our South African based Technical Account Manager for the EMEA region.
Corban was one of our original team members, when we launched the Enprise business back in late 2002. She has extensive technical, accounting, ERP & business experience. Having her back in the Enprise team is a major gain for Enprise, our partners and our customers.

Corban is based in Pretoria East, S.A. and will offer sales and product support to Enprise’s partners in Africa, the UK, Ireland and Continental Europe, for the full range of Enprise solutions for SAP Business One.
Having Corban now based in South Africa is demonstration of Enprise’s commitment to our partners and customers in Africa, the UK, Ireland and Continental Europe. We will now be able to give more immediate support and assistance for Enprise products to our partners in this region.
Corban is presently spending time with the Enprise Software team in Auckland, before heading back to South Africa to start her new role in mid April.

On Friday, February 1st 2013, Enprise Group Limited will list on the National Stock Exchange (NSX) of Australia under the CHESS code ENS.
This marks the completion of a series of restructuring moves at shareholder level for Enprise, where we have transitioned from being Venture Capital funded to being publicly listed, with over 350 shareholders.
Nearly all of our staff are now shareholders in the business, along with our directors, plus a number of professional investors and funds.
This year we will build on our portfolio of software products, as well as expand our local and international geographic coverage.

You might have noticed that my photograph appears regularly on Enprise’s web sites and marketing material. A fair question would be why me and why not a better-looking member of the Enprise team (of which there are many!).
My rationale is that business is personal and as CEO I am ultimately responsible to every customer, partner, shareholder, staff member and board member for the performance and behavior of Enprise, its people, services and software products. In business, you need to know (or at least see) who you are dealing with and where the buck stops. At Enprise, it stops with me.
My resolution for the New Year and beyond, is to continue striving to make Enprise a better and bigger business; to give better quality of service and offer better value for money to our customers and partners; to offer new innovative solutions to give our customers true competitive advantage; to be a great employer and attract and retain the best staff; to be fair and honest in all business dealings; to grow the business; and to give a fair and good return to our shareholders. What’s more, I’m going to put more pictures of other Enprise team members on to our web sites and promotional material – in addition to me!
I think 2013 is shaping up to be a prosperous year for small to medium-sized businesses – and on that note, I’d like to wish all readers Compliments of the Season and Happy New Year!

I’m often asked why I continue to be so passionate about MYOB EXO, which is a mid-market ERP accounting system that I started developing back in the late 1990’s and then sold to an Australian corporate more than twelve years ago.
My response is as follows;
- MYOB EXO, formerly known as “Exonet”, is today the top-selling ERP system in Australasia that is aimed at the “M” of “SME”. MYOB EXO accounts for 14% of new purchases of mid market ERP systems in Australia and New Zealand. No other mid-range system can match that in this very fragmented market.
- MYOB EXO has been built from the ground up by people in Australasia for businesses in Australasia. It contains all the functionality most Australian and New Zealand businesses require and includes no unnecessary complexity that is needed by businesses in other countries.
- The MYOB EXO suite of software is sold and supported by a base of experienced and knowledgeable re-sellers on both sides of the Tasman. There is no shortage of options when it comes to sales and after-sales support. This is an important consideration and many international packages sold locally cannot say the same.
- MYOB EXO is built on highly scale-able Microsoft technology which works superbly on all modern computers as well as the latest data centers for Cloud deployment and/or virtualization. Furthermore, it’s easy to extend and integrate with other software solutions, making it the ideal choice for growing and/or geographically distributed businesses.
- After fourteen years plus of passionate development, the MYOB EXO suite is now packed with modules, features and functions to give businesses competitive advantage and run like clockwork, giving managers the up-to-date visibility they need to guide their businesses forward in these challenging times.
Q: Would I bet my business on MYOB EXO? A: Yes of course, I have done so for the last fourteen years and will continue to do so for at least the next fourteen.
Nobody knows MYOB EXO better than my team at Enprise New Zealand and Enprise Australia. We welcome inquiries.

Last week, on Friday 21st September at DSQ Holdings Ltd’s Annual General Meeting, shareholders voted to approve the acquisition of Enprise. This is the beginning of a major new chapter in the evolution of both Enprise and DSQ (formerly Datasquirt), which will now become one and the same.
The new combined business will be named Enprise Group Limited, which will be a public New Zealand company, listed in Australia with over 350 shareholders.
This is a very positive development for all stakeholders (customers, partners, staff and shareholders) of both Enprise and DSQ.
The new Enprise Group will retain its focus on all aspects of delivering high-quality business software, solutions and services to small and medium sized enterprises. It will have offices throughout New Zealand and Australia (Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Wellington and Hamilton) in addition to its international channel of around 100 reseller partners throughout the USA, Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Enprise is a stable and profitable platform for growth, with three business units; Enprise Solutions NZ, Enprise Solutions AU, Enprise Software plus the joint venture, 2Cloud.biz.
Enprise Software is an SAP Gold Software Solution Partner that develops solutions for SAP Business One which is sold through an international partner channel.
Enprise Solutions is a top MYOB Platinum Partner in both New Zealand and Australia, which sells and supports the market leading MYOB EXO suite of business software.
2Cloud.biz is a joint venture, offering Cloud delivery of popular ERP solutions through established reseller channels. Presently, the business is focused exclusively on Cloud delivery of MYOB EXO and associated solutions to the Australasian market.
The new Enprise Group will exploit a range of growth-driving opportunities for its customers and for itself; including the shift to Cloud Computing, Mobile Solutions, Regional Expansion and new “Big Data” processing technologies.
I will be discussing various aspects of the new Enprise Group and its growth opportunities on this blog, over the coming weeks.

On September 21st at the Annual General Meeting of ASX-listed DSQ Holdings Limited, shareholders will vote on a proposal to acquire the Enprise Group of businesses. If accepted, this will effectively enable the back-door listing of Enprise where it will transform from being a private company to becoming an Australian-listed public company. DSQ Holdings Ltd will transform from being a publicly listed “cash-box” (with no business operations) to becoming the Enprise Group.
For me, the idea of DSQ and Enprise becoming one and the same is certainly an exciting prospect. I have always wanted to build an innovative, expansive and profitable public company and I have been extensively involved in both of these two businesses over the last decade, being a founder and director of both.
In the past, Enprise & DSQ have been successful in building up international software businesses which were then acquired by major American companies. In 2011, Enprise sold its EMS-Cortex business to Citrix and DSQ sold its Datasquirt business to LiveOps.
The new Enprise will maintain a strategy aimed at sustainable growth, running the business as a cash earner rather than a cash burner. Enprise is the perfect platform for growth with its extensive global channels-to-market for business management software.
2Cloud.biz
Included in the proposed Enprise Group acquisition is a one third share in a great new start-up business called 2cloud.biz which is a specialized Cloud Hosting Service provider aimed at the SME ERP market. At present it offers automated provisioning of hosted MYOB EXO systems and is marketed through the channel of MYOB EXO resellers throughout New Zealand and Australia. This business is experiencing rapid early stage growth and is a perfect example of how the Enprise Group can leverage its existing channels-to-market to launch new opportunities.
Enprise Solutions
Enprise Solutions is a Platinum MYOB EXO reseller in both Australia and New Zealand. It has offices in Auckland, Hamilton, Melbourne, Sydney and Wellington. The business is experiencing considerable demand from customers in Australia and our two Australian offices which were established earlier this year are driving a significant portion of our growth. Enprise’s goal is to achieve full regional coverage of Australia and New Zealand within the next 24 months.
Enprise Software
Enprise Software is a Gold Certified Solution Partner for the globally-marketed SAP Business One ERP platform. Enprise’s solutions include the popular Enprise Job Costing and Enprise Rent packages, amongst others. Sales and distribution is via a global channel of SAP certified resellers. There is much growth potential in this business unit as new demand grows for Cloud-based and mobility solutions in addition to SAP’s exciting new in-memory HANA platform.

The original PC Direct neon sign
I’ve been going to a few reunions lately – maybe it’s my age. First came the school reunions, which were notable for their lack of participants; then came a couple of business reunions which were a totally different story and a lot more fun.
Last Saturday night I dropped in to La Zeppa in Auckland to catch up with about 50 of my former colleagues from PC Direct. The reunion was instigated and organised by a number of the former staff, including Jennifer Stott, Eduard Johansen, Trevor Fowler and Cheryl Tinholt.
PC Direct is a New Zealand success story that started with its founders Maurice Bryham and Sharon Hunter in 1989 and grew to dominate the local personal computer market for most of the 1990’s, with a team of up to 120 staff. At times its share of the New Zealand PC market was larger than the global players such as IBM, Compaq and HP. Over 100,000 PC Direct computers were built and sold in to a market population of only 4 million people. Not bad market penetration!
Accordingly, PC Direct was known as the “Mouse that Roared”.
A well attended company reunion is the reflection of a great company and a great culture. Everyone was proud of being a part of it. PC Direct’s culture was electric. Its staff were young, motivated, enthusiastic and talented. We all worked hard and had fun. The business was winning on all fronts, including the marketplace, the industry awards and the minds of the computer-buying New Zealand public.
The people of PC Direct are now spread throughout the New Zealand IT industry and beyond (around the world in fact). I think many of us learnt a lot from that very positive experience. I certainly did.
I’m now looking forward to the 25th PC Direct anniversary reunion in a couple of years time (2014). I expect even more of the old team will attend that.

Today Datasquirt completed the sale of its assets and undertakings to LiveOps Inc of California USA. The employees of Datasquirt are now employees of LiveOps, Datasquirt’s products are now LiveOps’ products and Datasquirt customers are now LiveOps’ customers.
To me this marks the successful conclusion of a ten year journey with Datasquirt that started back in 2001. There have certainly been many interesting and challenging adventures that have involved a wide range of different people along the way.
Datasquirt was initially an experimental business that built business solutions around SMS Text messaging (which was all new and exciting at the time). We were ‘experimental’ in that we built various different types of bespoke messaging solutions for different types of businesses. After a while we started to see a pattern of what were common requirements for most of these business, so we developed a product called CONTACT that covered the common requirements, yet could be flexible and adapt to the specific needs of the various businesses that we targeted.
In 2008 we floated Datasquirt on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), just before the global market meltdown. With the proceeds of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) we set up sales offices in Australia, Germany, USA and the UK.
In early 2011 we partnered with a leading Cloud Contact Centre Provider ‘LiveOps’ as a distributor of Datasquirt’s products – primarily focused on the North American market. Later in the year we and they realised that our non-voice product set and their voice product set (both Cloud Based Solutions for Contact Centres) belonged together, so hence acquisition discussions began.
I wish LiveOps and the Datasquirt team well going forward and will watch their progress and successes with much interest over the coming years. I think they will make a formidable combination and they will have an extremely compelling Cloud-based offering for Contact Centres.
